Nikki Craft's published investigative account, in the national feminist quarterly On the Issues (Winter 1995), of her years of undercover documentation of sexual predators inside the American nudist/naturist movement — and of the case of Joseph Robert Wanner, arrested May 29, 1992 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania on charges including 14 counts of rape, 144 counts of child sex abuse for possession of child pornography, and child pornography production, under the longest search warrant in Berks County history. The confidential informant who set off the investigation was Craft. The article documents: her five years working for The Naturist Society and living at its headquarters with president Lee Baxandall; the Iowa ACLU chapter president who handed her three boxes of the most extensive child pornography collection she had ever seen, containing nudist publications including Nudist Moppets, Little Nudes, and Brats; her 1986 slide show confronting the movement's leadership with its own publishers' imagery; documented predator cases at Naturist Society gatherings (Zimmer, O'Boyle, Schumann); Wanner's memberships in NAMBLA and the Pedophile Information Exchange and his "Ms. Kriebel" aliases; his January 8, 1994 guilty plea and 10-to-30-year sentence; arresting officer Robert Gately's statement ("if you're looking for nude children it would be logical to go to places like a nudist camp"); Baxandall's written reasons for firing Craft in 1988 — "my continued work against TNS... my tenacious radical feminist politics, and my refusal to recruit more women into naturism"; her conclusion that "naturism is a paradise for sexual predators"; and her file, by 1995, of over 50 men operating within the movement convicted on child pornography, molestation, and/or rape charges.
